Control of Fiscal Deficit Sought

The Philippine government should move towards fiscal consolidation in order to maintain and maximize its growth momentum. This means that the government must not allow the widening fiscal deficit to worsen any further.
In a presentation, IMF Assistant Director for Research Department in Washington David J. Robinson underscored the importance of keeping budgetary deficit as an impetus to keep economic recovery on track.
The recent World Economic Outlook survey of the IMF, the paper which Robinson presented this week to the press, placed major importance to the "continuing efforts to strengthen revenue mobilization and further improve budgetary management, combined with comprehensive reform of state-owned enterprises and the banking system.
