‘Capiz Night’ keeps Capiz spirit alive at Intramuros
Roxas City (28 June 2005) -- Gov. Vicente Bermejo considered Capiz’s participation in the Philippines’ Bests 2005 as a “privilege” that allowed the province to showcase its best tourism potentials.

Bermejo gave due recognition to the Department of Tourism (DOT) for enabling Capiz to join the important tourism event. The year-long event was first initiated by then DOT Secretary and now Senator Richard Gordon in the 2003 “WOW Philippines.”

Speaking during the “Capiz Night” cultural show at Intramuros, Manila, which is the venue of Philippines’ Bests 2005, the chief provincial executive averred that behind the progress of Capiz is its rich culture, history and people who are endowed with cultural values.
This fact, he said, has made Capiz withstand the test of time, making progress in the socio-economic realm as envisioned by the governor in his Ten-point Agenda.

Bermejo led local officials here in attending the cultural presentation last June 24 which capped Capiz’s participation in the “Kabugana-an sang Western Visayas” from June 18-30, 2005. The presentation depicted the richness of the cultural, social and religious heritage of the Capiceños through a combination of contemporary dance, music and theatrical movements and interwoven with oral traditions like binalaybay, lowa and folk music.

In the morning, the performers organized by the Sigmahanon Foundation for Culture and the Arts held a preliminary show in preparation for the evening gala show. The whole day was declared as “Capiz Day” to highlight the whole spectrum of Capiz’s tourism potentials including its abundant seafood, shellcraft and other indigenous products, and natural and man-made tourist attractions.

Provincial Tourism Officer Alfonso Bediones, Jr. said the Capiz showcase at the Intramuros event was anchored on its reputation as a major seafood producer. In fact, Capiceños consider Capiz as the seafood capital of the Philippines.

Bediones said there are Capiceño businessmen who have become in-place suppliers of seafood products to provide Metro Manilans with a steady supply of their favorite crabs, shrimps, oysters, and the even more delicious “diwal” or angelwings.

What brought the house down inside Clamshell I in Intramuros was when the lilting Capiz theme song sung by a member of the cultural group shifted to a contemporary fast tempo to the delight of the audience led by the governor and also included Capiceños who are residing in the metropolis.

Other local officials who beefed up the Capiz delegation were vice governor Victor Tanco, Sr., members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, and municipal mayors and other town officials. Congressman Fredenil Castro (2nd District, Capiz) and Roxas City mayor Antonio Del Rosario joined the group at a dinner hosted tendered by Sen. Manuel Roxas II and Mrs. Judy A. Roxas at the Gateway in Cubao, Quezon City.

Castro, who showed up to welcome his fellow Capiceños in his usual warm-hearted manner, had a huddle with local officials and Mrs. Roxas, as well as members of the local tri-media who joined the group, during the dinner. Congressman Rodriguez Dadivas (1st District) also hosted a dinner for the group.

Also present at the Capiz show were DOT Regional Director Edwin Trompeta and Guimaras Gov. JC Rahman Nava. (PIA-JSC)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
