Capiz cops aim for police visibility in schools
by A. Lumaque
Roxas City (30 May 2007) -- Enhanced police visibility in various schools provincewide is being planned out by the Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO) in time with the opening of classes for school year 2007 to 2008 in June.
"Traffic assistance and stepped up drive against criminality will also be prioritized," said Capiz Police Director S/Supt. Roberto Villanueva.
The other key players helping the Department of Education (DepEd) in the provincial-based campaign to ensure a smooth opening of classes include the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Health (DOH), and local government units, among others.
The DepEd is set to launch on Monday its "Oplan Balik-Eswkela" program, the agency's vehicle to address public concerns on the opening of the new school year.
DepEd Secretary Jesli Lapus and Undersecretary Ramon Bacani will also be making the rounds of various schools in the country. They will set up an action center in every DepEd district office where parents and students may lodge their complaints against public schools requiring payment of fees as a pre-requisite to enroll.
The DepEd said nearly 20 million elementary and high school students will be going to schools when classes open on June 4. (PIA)
