Oriental Negros pushed as call center capital

Dumaguete City (30 June 2005) -- Oriental Negros is being eyed as the call center capital of the Philippines.
Fortunato Javier, provincial director of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) here said that Oriental Negros, particularly Dumaguete, is producing qualified professionals needed by the call center industry.
"The reason why a lot of call centers are coming here is because we are a people processing zone with quality English language," Javier noted in an earlier interview.
A renowned business consultant has reportedly noted that the province has the resources and technology to be the country's hub for outsourcing companies like call centers.
Philippines remains a rosy spot for putting up a call center business although high personnel turnover has been a cause for concern.
However, the country's information technology services sector is expanding so fast that there would be a dearth of talents to fill the 30, 000 new jobs that are expected to open annually over the next few years. (PIA)
