Bunye says Opposition desperate for power
MANILA (24 June 2005) -- The opposition is desperately gunning for power.
Press Secretary and Presidential Spokesman Ignacio Bunye made the description of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's foes setting up pressure on her to talk on the alleged wiretapped conversation to rig the May 2004 elections.
Bunye stressed that President Arroyo will not turn her back on the sovereign mandate given to her by the Filipino people saying that it is the people who gave the President the power to lead, and only they can take it away through ordained political process.
He pointed out that the nation continues to move forward despite the mounting political noise and the Filipino people do not dignify or support isolated calls for the President to resign.
The Palace official reiterated that mob rule will never defeat the democratic rule under the present administration.
"The Government shall exercise maximum tolerance but we expect the opposition to exercise maximum prudence and not to test the limits of the law," he said. (PIA-MMIO)
