POWER-HITTING FRANCISCO 'Django' Bustamante overwhelmed Johnny Archer, 11-5, but fancied Efren 'Bata' Reyes fell to Earl Strickland, 7-11, in the Philippines-United States International 9-Ball Challenge yesterday at the Metropolis Mall in Alabang, Muntinlupa.
Bustamante and Strickland, known for their thunderous breaks, capitalized on the erratic strokes of their rivals to fashion easy victories that prepared the stage for their championship showdown tomorrow.
The winner here gets $20,000 (roughly P1 million), while the runner-up is assured of $10,000 (about P500,000) put up by Puyat Sports, the classic's organizer with Viva Vintage Television.
Archer, a five-time Player of the Year in the rich American Pro Billiards Circuit, led only once at 1-0, before Bustamante took command, winning the next five racks for 5-1.
