PGMA calls for end to political conflict

Laoag City (26 June 2005) -- Despite the efforts of the government to cushion the impact of the political attacks against the administration, the bickering is starting to affect international trade and credit relations.
The President has asked for an end to the political problem rocking the country and appealed to the public to support her administration as the country begins to reap the fruits economic reforms that she initiated.
Sen Panfilo Lacson and leaders from the group of Fernando Poe Jr. have posed a united front supposedly to uncover the truth behind the tapes but more importantly to strengthen their
attack against the government after failing separately to unseat the President.
President Arroyo has persuaded AFP Chief of Staff Efren Abu to postpone his retirement and turnover of command to Philippine Army commanding general, Lt. Gen. Generoso Senga to ensure smooth transition of the military leadership amidst of the on-going crisis.
The International Monetary Fund has demanded close watch on government spending and warned of derail in economic prospects because of the political uncertainty facing the country.
Credit rating agency Fitch Ratings has decided to visit the Philippines in the third quarter to evaluate the situation in the country and prospects for further developments. (PIA)
