Abaca fiber eyed as fiberglass substitute
Tacloban City (30 October 2005) -- Intensive studies are now being focused on the utilization of abaca fiber as fiberglass substitute in the production of interior and exterior parts of Mercedes Benz cars.
This is the object of the new collaborative project on abaca of the Leyte State University and the Daimler-Chrysler, German Investment and Development Company (KfW Group), European Nature Heritage Fund, and the University of Hohenbein in Germany.

LSU President Paciencia Milan revealed that the new collaborative venture between the Philippine and German Institutions, dubbed as "Public-Private Partnership Abaca Project: Application of Abaca Fiber in Industry," is an offshoot of a mutual concern for the advancement of the industry, improvement of the abaca farmers' economic condition and environmental protection.

Funded by the Daimler-Chrysler and DEG (KfW Group), LSU is tasked among others to coordinate and oversee the continued production of the required quality of abaca fibers.

During the formal presentation of the project, about seventeen journalists from various media outfits in Germany, Singapore and Philippines trooped to LSU to gather first hand information about the new project.

Governor Carlos Jericho Petilla of the province of Leyte remarked that the project is an example of the kind of agricultural venture that the government has been advocating and is always committed to support.

After the formal program, the official opening of the Abaca Processing Center was held. This vital facility of the project consists of abaca fiber warehouse for fiber classification and storage, stripping machines for primary and secondary fiber, and a greenhouse type solar abaca dryer.
Daimler-Chrysler pledged to donate 10 more units of stripping machine worth P40,000.00 each to the villages involved in the project. (PIA 8/LSU)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
