533 dengue cases recorded in Zamboanga CityZamboanga City (23 June 2005) -- There is a reported serious outbreak of dengue hemorrhagic fever in the city, as City Health Office (CHO) yesterday reported a highly alarming number of case registered from January to June, this year.
Compared to last year's number of cases, CHO assistant officer Dra. Carol Lourdes Carabaña revealed that as of yesterday, a total of 533 cases of dengue have been recorded. She said the alarming cases of the dreaded mosquito-borne disease as of this period has even increased in triple the number of cases reported the whole year of 2004.
Earlier yesterday, City Health Officer Dr. Rodel Agbulos, in a radio interview disclosed that his office will embark on a massive fumigation campaign of barangays identified as dengue-prone areas. He said the campaign will kickoff today in line with its "Alarma Contra Dengue" program of the city to fight the said disease that has now invaded at least 18 identified barangays where cases of dengue have been recorded recently.
