2013 Boholympics Sports Event in Bohol
« on: July 29, 2013, 08:47:59 PM »
The Boholympics’ second year anniversary marks not only a great celebration of sportsmanship but more importantly, a more fitting observance of camaraderie, team spirit and unity among all sectors comprising the Boholano community.

The four-day Boholympics 2013, which officially opened July 18, clearly indicates harmony among political parties sans politics; an unspoken agreement where everyone’s goals and aspirations is in sync and in accord with everybody else’s, pointing towards only one direction: Bohol’s untethered development by reducing poverty through sports.

Where only half the number of the total local government units (LGUs) have registered as participants last year; this year, participating LGUs has reached a total of 37, with the City of Tagbilaran coming in as the largest contingent.

Opening ceremonies was last Thursday at the Bohol Cultural Center and the CPG Sports Complex led by Provincial Administrator Alfonso Damalerio II, its Executive Director; Joel Molina, Provincial Youth and Sports Coordinator; and Cirilo Calatrava, the Division PESS Coordinator in Bohol, who, earlier that day, explained the technical rules to the participants.

Gov. Edgar M. Chatto and Mayor John Geesnell “Baba” Yap proudly led the raising of the Boholympics Flag together with Vice-Gov. Concepcion Lim, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Members and Tagbilaran City Officials.

This was then followed by the raising of LGU banners by each delegation, the recitation of the Oath of Sportsmanship, the Lighting of the Run which got started in Greece even before Christ, and eventually, the formal declaration of the opening of Boholympics 2013.

That same day saw the Miss Boholympics competition where Tagbilaran City’s own bet, Ritaloe Rose Razo bested all other beauty and brains contestants from Tubigon, Jagna, Valencia, San Isidro, Maribojoc and Baclayon.

Participant athletes and guests were given the chance to mingle with and meet each other that evening for competition proper only started the following day, July 19, and will end later today, July 21, during the awarding ceremonies.

Both Gov. Chatto and PA Damalerio are extremely proud of this year’s Boholympics where the latter egged each athlete on “to do good by doing your best.”

This year’s events include: Basketball, Arnis, Athletics, Karatedo, Boxing, Chess, Sepak Takraw, Table Tennis, Soccer Football, Beach Volleyball, Badminton, Swimming, Lawn Tennis, Baseball and DanceSports.

Participating towns for Boholympics 2013 are Dauis, Panglao, Baclayon, Maribojoc, Antequera, Tubigon, Catigbian, Balilihan, Cortes, Lila, Carmen, Sikatuna, Talibon, Getafe, Loon, Calape, Buenavista, Trinidad, Mabini, Inabanga, Bilar, Alicia, Valencia, Ubay, Dagohoy, Batuan, Corella, San Isidro, Albur, Loboc, Loay, Sagbayan, Guindulman, Jagna, Sierra-Bullones, Duero, and the City of Tagbilaran.
