Hi Dong Lorenz!
My father's complete name is Teodoro Amora Tan. My complete maiden name is Annabelle Caga Tan. I am now Annabelle Tan Kay, as I married an Englishman.
In fact, my aunt had an immigration problem when she took her C.P.A. exams kay gi question ang ijang citizenship. In the 1935 Constitution kasi, a minor's citizenship automatically follows that of the father, thus, theoritically, my father was Chinese citizen and had to process his "citizenship" to opt to become Filipino once he came of age.
Annabelle
yes, yes!
my Lola Nating had the same thing happen to her. Because her father, Tan Ngai He ( my Lolo Mariano Tan) was a Chinese Citizen. She technically was a chinese citizen because of her father's nationality. and in fact, i think my lolo mariano never really proceded with naturalization to filipino citizenship. he was a chinese citizen till the day he passed away.
lolo actually took my great-lola, and their kids to china. they lived there for 4-5 years, then later moving back to Bohol.
We still have a lot of relatives in GUANGZHOU, CHINA to this day.
In fact, my lola even met her lolo (my great-great grandfather) and her lola (my great-great grandmother).
100% PURE HAN Chinese...
When they returned back to Bohol (in the early 1930's), my lola was speaking in Cantonese. Filipino (Binisaya) was a secondary language for her.
~~
When I was younger, my lola nating used to mix cantonese with bisaya hehehe. she used to sing lullabies (in cantonese) when i was younger.
