Why do they have to kill for? And they say Islam is a peaceful religion?

I have a friend who is an Egyptian Coptic Orthodox and her uncle was shot to death because he was a Christian. In fact, the only reason why she and her family left Egypt was because they were targeted to be killed.

The Koran says, and I quote, "Fight the Unbelievers who gird you" (verses Surah 9:123). Now does 'fight' mean argue or battle? Ask any Muslim cleric and he will say that the innocent must not be killed in Jihad. Who is an innocent, asked one reporter to the leading Muslim cleric in the USA? "Anyone who follows Islam". So the rest of us must either convert or be killed.
