A whooping P28-million road projects in the rural towns of Alicia and Pilar turned uphill and muddy trails in remote barangays into concrete stretches of farm-to-market roads under the Second Agrarian Reform Communities Development Project Phase II (ARCDP-2) through the partnership of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) and the local government units.
In Alicia, the once rough trail turned into a P16.55-million concrete farm-to-market road that stretched to 4.64 kilometers in barangay of Sudlon, with sufficient drainage facilities winding along the scenic rice terraces view at the La Hacienda-Sudlon Agrarian Reform Community.
Alicia Mayor Pedro Miasco said he has anticipated more developments to follow as he encouraged the agrarian reform beneficiaries in the area to produce more.
Moreover, Third District Rep. Adam Relson Jala, as represented by former Congressman Eladio Jala, expressed support to complement the “nice roadâ€, by promising to give multi-cab service vehicles to these barangays soon.
In the same vein, the strong teamwork of the local authorities in the town of Pilar, headed by Mayor Wilson Pajo, facilitated the construction of a 2.961-kilometer concrete pavement stretching through barangay Poblacion to barangay Cagawasan with a total cost of P11.8 million.
During the turn-over ceremony on July 23, Director Adelberto Baniqued, chief technical advisor of the central project office, said that a corresponding policy must be formulated by the barangay officials concerned in order to sustain the usefulness of the project.
Others who witnessed the turnover ceremonies held separately in the two barangays- -in Poblacion, Pilar in the morning, and Sudlon, Alicia in the afternoon- -include former Congressman Jala, Provincial Administrator Tomas Abapo Jr. representing Governor Erico Aumentado, Mayor Miasco and Mayor Pajo, and municipal and barangay officials.
From DAR, were Lawyer Johnson Sinco, provincial head, ARCDP2 Project Deputy Alex Relova, Chief of the Program Beneficiaries Development Eddie Manginsay, DAR Project Engineer Leonard Cagampang, DAR Municipal Officer of Pilar Nila Mangayaay, DAR Muncipal Office of Alicia Anacleta Ancog, with their staff and the agrarian farmer recipients of the projects.
