A good, many people of the neighboring town of Alburquerque say that the result of the mayoralty elections thereat was determined by the issue of trash.
While the winner, the incumbent Mayor Jun Ugdoracion resisted with all of his might and fervor the putting up of a landfill - some sort of trash catch basin - in his hometown, the then Mayor Tungolh put all his marbles and his mouth into the landfill project. The rest is history. Ugdoracion now sits, where Tungolh used to stay.
But we are not really talking of the intended garbage that would have been disposed of in that town where both reside. Being our good friends, we feel that they should now reconcile their differences and think of what's best for there tiny but progressive municipality. After all, we are sure that they have no hidden agenda in the landfill issue. Quite hopefully, we trust though that both protagonists have since then forgotten their bitter moments, and have now reasoned together to allow the putting up of the landfill in the controverted area, with all the safety precautions in place so as to protect their townspeople.
Like them, and their concerned constituents, we are talking here of protecting the environment and protecting the future of the people of Alburquerque as well. The residents of the town, including those who will live after them, should be able to drink clean water and breath clean air, and live safely in the area in the many years to come.
