Residents of Albur town who are opposed to the hosting of a cluster sanitary landfill project will stage a mass protest rally this morning at the Albur town hall.
The group, mostly composed of members of Hugpong Alburanon Nagpakabana (Hugalna) will be led by Vice Mayor Cirilo Jalad and Kag. Teodulo Pinlac.
During an interview over dyRD's Action Line yesterday, Pinlac said they hold the protest rally to dramatize their demand to stop the ongoing construction at the project site in barangay Dangay.
The group claims the landfill should not be constructed over an aquifer, like barangay Dangay which is said to be a source of water in said town.
According to Pinlac, Hugalna will not agree that Albur will host the garbage disposed from 13 towns.
Despite massive opposition from Albur folks, the landfill project has managed to get an approval and permit from the provincial and national agencies.
Last month, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) issued an environmental compliance certificate (ECC) for the project. -
