Argentina’s E-mail
By Fred C. Amora
Published: November 26, 2006 by The Bohol Standard

Again, I had to download many messages from my e-mail address as they keep coming. The most-lengthy is the e-mail from my voluptuous ex-lover Argentina detailing how happy she is now in the land of milk and honey, the USA, and her luck of being able to wiggle herself from a murky past.

Well, Good Riddance too. Life is indeed “weather, weather.” Wither you like it or not!

The fear of facing the truth and accepting the inevitable is a sign of weakness. It also spawns a creeping sense of Guilt, that feeling of realizing your blunders and the wrong you have done to others.

To most people, it is unlikely that they would openly admit such wrongful acts because of Pride. They may feel such guilt but more-often, they opt to stay “play-acting” as if unmindful of what they have done (patay-malisya).

For some exceptional few, admitting mistakes is one relishing moment to unload all burdens of Guilt; - a virtue that is so rare that it is only expected from a handful who have mastered themselves and have full control of their lives.

To stress my point, let me deviate from my usual serious homilies and share to you this humorous laugh-line and let’s see if the message gets through. This is, however, laced with a subtle dose of green humor. Take caution!

The story goes like this:

A doctor once approached his Confessor and asked for atonement and advice how to cope with his guilty feeling of something he had done.

“Father bless me for I have sin…”

“Go ahead son… please make it brief, the waiting line is quite long,” the Father Confessor said.

“Father I am a doctor and I had sex with my patient one time.”

“Oh… that’s not right, but it is normal. It happens sometimes,” the confessor reassures the penitent.

“But one thing Father is ….”

“You don’t have to explain. Stop worrying. Go in peace and recite the Act of Contrition and pray five times a day facing the East,” the Father Confessor blessed him and shouted: “Next.”

The penitent stood up and went to a secluded aisle of the church with his eyebrows still wrinkled with guilt.

“Oh my God … I have sinned again. I did not tell the Father Confessor I am a Veterinarian.”

(It’s a joke! Did you get the punch line? If not, please see and consult a doctor.)

On Friday, I was able to join the final board meeting of the Bohol Tri-Media Association (BTMA) at the JJs Seafoods Village threshing out details of our Christmas party and the holding of recognition awards for media excellence.

One board member asked me if I can propose to insert one award that was not included during the last meeting. What awards would that be?

He said the “Most Extortionate” radio program that is dreaded by public officials and those having business with government, like contractors and suppliers.

“Naa diay radio program nga ingon ana?” I asked him.

“Oh... come on! Kana diay ilang telepono nga ang iyang ring tone morag cash register,” he said.

“No comment ko ana oy,” I simply said.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
