Last year, I was caring for a patient who was comatose for several months; his family had came to visit him hours prior. His family came to say to say good bye to him.
The RN who was caring for the patient said to the patient, "Its okay now, you can go now...its okay to go..."
Within 30 minutes, the patient passed.
I was there when the nurse said that because I remember writing some notes in that room. 5 minutes after the patient was declared dead, the board in his room fell down, and the chairs that was next to his bed was pushed out of the way by something. I saw this and so did 2 other nurses in the room.
One of the RNs said, "Wow, his spirit is so strong!"
I remember the hairs on my back rising when she said that.
