Police secure injured ex-cop linked to Maguindanao massacrePIKIT, North Cotabato, March 2 (PNA) –- Police are closely watching in a Kidapawan City hospital a former police officer linked to the Maguindanao massacre who was injured in a shootout with police out to arrest him Tuesday.
Chief Inspector Donald Cabigas, Pikit town police chief, said the local police were to serve arrest warrant issued by Judge Jocelyn Solis Reyes of RTC-221 in Quezon City against former PO1 Jonathan Engid when he resisted and opened fire on approaching lawmen.
Cabigas said Engid was critically injured and rushed by police to the North Cotabato provincial hospital.
"We are securing him in the hospital after reports showed his comrades were out to rescue him," Cabigas told reporters.
Engid was the 122nd suspect charged before RTC-122 for the involvement in the country’s worst election related violence that claimed 58 lives, 30 of whom were journalists, in Ampatuan, Maguindanao.
More than 70 others remain at large.
Cabigas said once Engid recovers, he will be turned over to the court in Quezon City. (PNA)
