BFP-7 opens 122 positions as fire-related deaths in Central Visayas quadruple in 2016

CEBU CITY, March 1 (PNA) -- The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) 7 has opened 122 positions for fire fighters as fire-related deaths in Central Visayas quadrupled last year compared to 2015.

BFP 7 Director Senior Supt. Samuel Tadeo on Wednesday said they recorded at least 34 deaths in 842 fire-related incidents in 2016 compared to eight deaths in 1,045 incidents in 2015.

The fire incidents last year also resulted in PHP85.87 million in damage to property, which is lower than the PHP99.58 million recorded in 2015.

Tadeo said children who were left by their parents inside their homes while they were away were among the fatalities last year.

He said most victims died of suffocation as they chose to run to their bathrooms when they saw fire and got trapped.

Tadeo said they also lack firefighters and are inviting those who want to pursue a career in fire fighting to join them.

Tadeo said they are aiming for the ideal ratio of one fire fighter for every 2,000 residents.

Tadeo said anyone who finished any college degree, aged between 21 to 30 years old can apply.

Female applicants should be at least 5’2″ in height, while male applicants should be at least 5’4″ tall.

The BFP 7 on Wednesday marked the start of the celebration of the month of March as fire prevention month with a motorcade at 10 a.m. participated in by several offices and organizations, among them, the Philippine National Police and the Cebu City Government, as well as by fire brigade volunteers.

Tadeo reminded the public to be extra careful, especially during summer, when more fires break out. (PNA)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
