2 die, 5 wounded in Zambo highway collisionZAMBOANGA CITY, June 1 (PNA) -– Two people died while five others, including a child, were wounded early Wednesday in a highway collision involving a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) and a passenger bus in this city.
Chief Insp. Ramon Bautista, Police Station 2 chief, disclosed the collision occurred around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday in Sitio Calanasan, Barangay Quiniput, 44.70 kilometers east of City Hall.
Bautista identified the fatalities as Dionisio Palma Jr., 32, the SUV driver; and, Caridad Ciruelos, 56. They were declared dead by the attending physician at the Cristino Paragas Memorial Hospital in Quiniput.
Wounded were Julie Galdon, four; Lovely Palma, 27; Rysel Lyka Circuelos, 12; Dionisio Palma, 56; Rosel Palma, 36.
Bautista said no one was either killed or injured among the people aboard the passenger bus of the Lizamae Express driven by Arnel Rondovio, 37.
He said investigation showed the bus, which was bound for Sirawai, Zamboanga del Norte, collided head-on with the SUV after it avoided a motorcycle while negotiating a curve and descending road in Sitio Calanasan, Barangay Quiniput, this city.
The SUV was traveling from Tampilisan, Zamboanga del Norte to the city proper at the time of the collision.
Bautista said the bus driver was detained at the Police Station 2 headquarters and appropriate charges are set to be filed against him. (PNA)
