Deputized policemen manning the traffic would soon do cursory flag-downs on motorcycles aiming for helmets, tail-lights, noisy mufflers and drunk drivers.
This was according to PSSupt. Rodolfo Llorca during the recent Talakayan Sa Isyung Pulis (TSIP) held every second Wednesday of the month at the Director’s Office of Camp Dagohoy.
Going tough now against motorcycle riding criminal elements, which have stirred the usually peaceful province, Llorca believes as soon as his men can get the proper deputization from the Land Transportation Office, they can aggressively pursue these criminal elements.
Despite the presence of a very good road-network that works similarly as an advantage for criminal elements, Llorca said checkpoints manned by deputized members of the police force would lessen if not solve the porous boundaries that lend help to criminal elements.
During the Regional peace and Order Council meeting held recently, Region 7 police headquarters reported an increase in crimes perpetuated by motorcycle riding criminal elements.
PSSupt Melvin Ramon Buenafe said there were 29 reported crimes by motorcycle riding elements in Bohol during the first quarter of the year. It rose to 36 during the second quarter.
On the situation Bohol Police Director Llorca said his men could not just apprehend without the LTO deputization orders, one that he has scheduled within the week.
The LTO deputization also legalizes the issuances of Temporary Operator’s Permits (TOP) as citations to violators.
Llorca, who also aired his concern over the rising cases of motor vehicle accidents, often resulting in fatal injuries and even death to helmet-less drivers and tandem riders said a national law can be implemented here.
He was also talking about the Bohol Road safety Plan which zeroes in on zero death in Bohol.
The plan, he explained to the media would be two pronged.
He would vouch on safe roads complete with accident warning signages, mandatory rest stops and engineering corrective measures on accident prone roads.
On the other hand, he would want strengthened traffic management and the presence of enforcers as guide to ease traffic coupled with keeping non-roadworthy vehicles off Bohol streets. (racPIABohol)
