Two modern hospitals will open within the next three months to solve the scarcity of private rooms in the city.

All set to open next month is the new Cooperative Hospital while the Holy Name University Medical Center is targeting to commence its operation in September or October this year.

Presently, the city has seven hospitals with a total bed capacity of 573, namely, Gov. Gallares Memorial Hospital, 235; Ramiro Hospital, 100; Tagbilaran Community Hospital, 50; Borja Family Hospital, 50; Englewood Hospital, 75; St. Jude Hospital, 24 and Cooperative Hospital, 39.       

Dr. Benjamin A. Galia who will head the new Coop Hospital located in Dampas district, this city said Phase I will open a 50-bed capacity with medical services like surgery, internal medicine, pediatrics, OB-GYNE and Family Medicine as major services.          

He said other services will include anesthesia, orthopedic surgery, radiology, pathology, ultra sound and CT-scan.

Services and treatment in the existing Coop Hospital along Airport Road will be transferred to the new hospital once it will be operational.

Galia said the hospital will not be hiring new personnel as the existing staff will just be transferred to their new site which is near the Island City Mall, a road leading to the Divine Mercy chapel in Dampas district, this city.

Meanwhile, the Holy Name University Medical Center constructed at the huge Janseen Heights campus is tentatively set to open in September this year, according to Fr. Andres Guban, SVD, vice president for administration.

Guban who is the hospital-in-charge said Phase I will bring 50 beds ready for occupancy.
