Philippine Caves: Kalangay and Batongan Caves in Masbate
« on: May 28, 2012, 06:39:41 AM »
The town of Mandaon is 64km west of Masbate City on the opposite coast of the island. The trip by jeepney (P40) takes you along a scenic road that passes through pastureland, paddy fields and a number of isolated barrios inhabited by subsistence farmers. There’s not much in Mandaon itself, but it’s a good base for exploring two
of the island’s most noted natural wonders,  KALANAY   CAVE on the northwest coast 40km from Mandaon, and  BATONGAN CAVE , 20km inland from Mandaon. Both make excellent day-trips, but Batongan is the better of the two, with immense caverns and a large population of bats whose guano is collected and used as fertilizer. About 100m away is an underground river, which you can swim in. It’s easy to get lost in these parts and if you fall and get injured you might not be found for days, so don’t explore the caves or the river without a  local guide (P500). In Mandaon you can ask at the town hall; the mayor or his staf will appoint someone to take you. - source: Rough Guide Travel Book

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

One place in the Philippines I also want to visit myself. I wonder if Kalangay Cave is home to a colony of Philippine cockatoos...
