Farmer Vicky Wallace of Bohol
« on: February 08, 2008, 04:21:58 PM »

Vicky Wallace

An advocate of organic farming and a self-confessed insect-lover, 44-year old Vicky Wallace has become the most sought after figure in Bohol. Buying a 4.8-hectare property to pursue her love for farming and successfully establishing the Bohol Bee Farm to continue promoting things that are organically grown, she could proudly say that farming is so far the best thing that has happened in her life.

A foremost supporter of companion planting that allows the growth of different kinds of indigenous materials near the vegetable gardens, Wallace urges that having insects which most farmers regard as pests is not at all an alarming issue. In fact she tolerates having these shelters and nesting places for insects near her plots of plants, saying that it is lovely to live harmoniously on the farm with other creatures.

Hmm if i could still remember that i used to slept on her cottage somewhere in DAO Dauis during  my college days...she has a very nice butterfly garden and plant vegetables without spray and using organic fertilizer...and every morning magpapaak siya sa mga bee kay tambal daw...

Enjoy there Happy!  The area is very secluded and romantic, the food is very delicious but quite expensive.  They will serve you that "Biosalad" everything what grows there ( red rice sinaksakan ug kamote, flowers and etc....healthy one).  You can come there with group and rent the ex-residence house of Mrs. Wallace (good for 6 persons), as far as I could remember in the year 2004 the charged was between 6 to 8 thousand Pesos per day without meals.
Unya nalang uli nimo imong adtuon ;)

Before I forget...the hotel is located in a cliff line, no white sandy beaches.  You must have to go down with staircase in order to go swimming.  Enjoy the breeze of the waves while relaxing for a wellness massage.  Besides..they have clean and nice rooms with reasonable prices and a bit cheaper as in Panglao Nature, Bohol Beach Club and Alona Palm Beach.

musts at the bee farm:

1. organic garden salad with marigold, gumamela, katuray, cosmos on it.
2. cabcab (actually this is nothing but scrapped cassava deep fried) or galang galang  to be taken with latik
3. lemon grass tea
4. squash muffins
5. corn muffins
6. hilot at the massage center
7, a souvenir item
8. buffet dinner at P350 or P400 per pax inclusive of homemade ice cream dessert
9. overnight stay at the bee hive or at least the colony
10. organic farm tour

Vicky is worth emulating. Some of her treats are common knowledge but nobody except her has dared to venture into this kind of health and wellness business with environmental consciousness. Her kabkab is served not with the usual latik but with pesto sauce made more mouthwatering by some chunks of green tomatoes and crushed cheese. Naglaway na ko!

Kabkab is ground cassava, flattened and sundried. The mash could also be cut into strips before sundrying. When fried, they extend into cracker-like pieces. Traditionally paired with "latik". As far as I know, Vicky Wallace is the only person that serves kabkab with pesto sauce, green tomato bits and cheese.

Vicky has the makings of a real entrepreneur.  She is very creative in her business.  In Tagbilaran, where restaurants and food chains are sprouting everywhere, her ideas withstood the rest.

Bohol Bee farm is very known to most of my friends in Manila.

Ok man kaayo ang latik basta nag snacks lang ka.  Sa Bohol Bee Farm, ang paggamit og pesto sauce, tomato bits and cheese para lang sa abregana or appetizer before a meal.
