Acknowledging the very crucial role played by both national and local media practitioners in the country’s pursuit of economic development specifically for the tourism sector, Bohol first district Cong. Edgar M. Chatto last week graced as one of the speakers in the highly successful 11th National Press Congress held at Hotel La Roca.

The Publishers Association of the Philippines (PAPI), lead convenor of the event invited the lawmaker to give insights on the government’s programs and projects for the tourism industry, the solon being the chairman of the Committee on Tourism in the Lower House.

Chatto for his part reported that Philippine tourism, now identified as a potent force and a must-see indicator for the country’s economic statistics, has accounted for $2 billion in domestic tourism receipts. With a projection of 3 million arrivals by yearend, the country may now compete for its share of the 10% tourism economic production worldwide along with its Asean neighbors.

“Our friends in the media industry have the means to improve and promote the Philippines by making known to the world our country’s geographical beauty and unique culture” said Chatto to the delegates of the three day affair composed of news writers, editors, broadcasters, columnists,

publishers and campus journalists. The solon went further by saying that the partnership for progress between the private and public sector must continue by keeping healthy and open collaborations through consultations, meetings and dialogues.

Cong. Chatto also called on the media sector to highlight more positive images of the country with regards to its culture, natural beauty, the economy and its people.

The staging of the 11th National Press Congress in Bohol was in cooperation with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the host provincial government. Other visiting speakers included DOT Usec. Floriah Alburo, Mrs. Sonia Malasarte-Roco, Women in Business president and Hon. Cecile Guidote-Alvarez, presidential adviser on Culture and the Arts. Its theme for this year was “Media and Tourism: Partners for Congress”.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
