Don’t bring packages for pay offered by strangersPublished: December 24, 2006 by The Bohol Standard
BEWARE of strangers who offer to pay you for delivering their boxes or bags. The package may contain bombs.
The warning came following reported incidents of terror attacks from lawless groups. This could happen during the yuletide season wherein gifts and presents are wrapped in packages.
Parents are urged to warn their children against talking to strangers who may request them to deliver items.
A case of a minor who was asked to deliver a bag that contained bombs, was raced by the police to have cause the explosion in a commercial center in Mindanao.
Police also encouraged the creation of a neighborhood watch.
Residents must immediately report the presence of any suspicious looking person or activities in their communities.
Among the terrorist groups operating in the Philippines are the Abu Sayyaf Group, the Jemaah Islamiyah and the Rajah Sulaiman Group, which are affiliated with the Al-Qaeda network and financed by Osama Bin Laden.
The authorities have pointed to the Abu Sayyaf Group as behind the series of bombings in Mindanao and Metro Manila.
Aside from the Muslim extremists groups, the United States and European Union have tagged the communist New People’s Army as a terrorist organization.
