December 2000 - It seems the weather will not cooperate with tonight's New Year's Eve celebration.
Afternoon rainshowers are expected in Luzon today, while stormy weather will soak the southern part of the country, especially Eastern Visayas and Northeastern Mindanao due to the approaching "Welpring," now a storm.
At 4 p.m. yesterday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) spotted the center of Welpring at 140 kilometers east-southeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar (coordinates: 10.8 degrees north, 127.0 degrees east).
Internationally known as Soulik, storm Welpring now bears peak winds of 65 kph, and may further intensify today as it threatens to hit Samar provinces.
