definition of what rhymes with ethos:

pathos

noun

    a quality that evokes pity or sadness.
    "the actor injects his customary humour and pathos into the role"
    synonyms:   poignancy, tragedy, sadness, pitifulness, piteousness, pitiableness, plaintiveness, sorrowfulness
    "the pathos of Antoine's predicament"

as for athos and porthos, well, as everyone knows, they're two of the three musketeers.  the name of the third, aramis, has been brought down a notch by having a perfume named after him.  leave it to the french...
