MANILA, Dec 29 (PIA) -- Action movie "Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story" was adjudged as the Best Picture during the 37th Metro Manila Film Festival at the Awards Night held at the Performing Arts Theater in Resorts World Manila Wednesday evening, attended by the biggest and brightest stars of the festival.

The movie also bagged the Best Production Design (Fritz Silorio, Mona Soriano and Ronaldo Cadapan), Best Editing (Jason Cahapay and Ryan Orduna), Best Musical Score (Nonong Buencamino), Best Sound Recording (Mike Idioma) and Best Cinematography (Carlo Mendoza) trophies.
John Regala, who is also part of the action movie, won Best Supporting Actor, while Roi Iglesias and Rey Ventura received the Best Screenplay award.

Eraserheads former lead vocalist Ely Buendia, who sung "La Paloma" (Asiong Salonga) took home the Best Original Theme Song.
The movie also bagged the Best Director award, accepted by lead actor and Laguna Governor ER Ejercito.

In his acceptance speech, Ejercito said that directorial credits should also be given to Tikoy Aguiluz because he was their driving force during the remake of the movie.

Star Cinema and M-Zet Productions "Enteng ng Ina Mo" grabbed the 2nd Best Picture trophy and the Best Make-Up award for Florencio Panero and Nicolo Medina.

Starring Vic Sotto and Comedy Queen Ai-Ai delas Alas, the family-comedy topped the first day of the festival and is reported to hit the P30 million mark.

Another Star Cinema movie "Segunda Mano", topbilled by Queen of All Media Kris Aquino, won the Best Festival Actor trophy for Dingdong Dantes.

Regal Films "Shake, Rattle and Roll XIII" won three awards, namely: 3rd Festival Best Picture, Best Child Actor for Bugoy Drilon and Best Story by Chris Martinez and Marlon Rivera in the horror flicks "Lunod" episode.

Maricel Soriano was hailed as this year’s Best Performing Actress for "Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow" produced by Regal Films. The Diamond star shares the big screen with Gabby Concepcion, Jericho Rosales, Carla Abellana and Dennis Trillo in the movie.

Senator Bong Revilla's "Ang Panday 2" and the movie of real-life couple Judy Ann Santos and Ryan Agoncillo "My House Husband" both went home with two awards.

"Ang Panday 2" won the Best Festival Float and Best Visual Effect by Riot Incorporated, while "My House Husband", by OctoArts Film received the Gender Sensitive Award and Best Supporting Actress trophy for Eugene Domingo.

Veteran actor Eddie Garcia received the Lifetime Achievement Award during the 37th MMFF for his contributions and body of work in the entertainment business.

Garcia, who is part of the cast of "Ang Panday 2," won 30 Best Supporting Actor trophies, 10 Best Actor Awards, and was hailed 11 times as Best Director in movies.
