DICT encourages students to take up science, IT coursesThe Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is encouraging senior high schools students to take science, technology, engineering, and mathematics courses to make them more competitive. DICT Davao Regional Director Leo Ugto said there is a need for the country's ICT industry to level up so that it will not be left behind by other ASEAN countries. Every student, he said, will have to be trained in all ICT endeavors, including business process outsourcing, which covers non-voice, animation, healthcare, cybersecurity, and many other sectors. The DICT has already partnered with the Commission on Higher Education to integrate ICT-related courses into school curricula.
