Denims have gone a long way since it emerged during the California Gold Rush in the 1800s. Since that time, denims have partied with American GI’s during World War II, gained anti-establishment status in the 1960s and 1970s, and reached its peak in the 1980s when Brooke Shields declared that nothing came between her and her Calvin Klein’s.

While denims have long been associated with rugged dressing, we are now also seeing their glam side today at SM. In fact, wearing denims like its haute couture is the fashion statement of the 21st century. Think of ultimate party girl Paris Hilton in her itsy bitsy denim miniskirts, red-carpet stunner Cameron Diaz and her closet full of high-end denims. Here are some ways to glam it up with denims from SM:



Pure Jean-ious. There’s nothing like a well cut pair of jeans to make you stand out in the crowd. You’ll never go wrong with a flattering pair of boot cut jeans or flair cut jeans. For a sexier silhouette, go skinny-with a pair of ankle length or cropped skinny jeans.


Jacket Required. The denim jacket goes uptown when paired with luxe evening dresses in soft chiffon and shiny metallics.


Best of the West. Borrowed from the boys, the denim vest is a great way to layer any outfit. They’re great for the rock couture look of the season when paired with poufy or slim fitting tops.


Jumpstarting. Denim jumpers have gone a long way from the handyman’s wardrobe. Today’s jumpers are curve hugging, cropped and cuffed, and can walk the red carpet with a pair of sexy, strappy heel sandals.


Skirting the Issue. The denim skirt is a fashionista’s best friend because it’s stylish and comfortable. Pairing it with dressy tops and bling elements will make you look so polished you can take it out to dinner or a movie preem.


The Short Story. Go for the glitz and pair denim shorts with a sexy dramatic top and a pair of killer stilettos.
