Diva demands
« on: May 04, 2013, 01:36:47 AM »
It's not unusual for stars to have unusual demands when on tour.

Queen Bey travels to the concert venue by helicopter

Beyonce, who is on a Mrs Carter world tour in London up to May 5, is said to have the following riders:

-all her crew members wear 100 percent cotton

-alkaline water is chilled to 21 degrees and served through $900 titanium straws

-access to hand carved ice balls after every show to cool her throat

-new toilet seats

-red toilet paper

White leather couches, black satin drapes, Jameson whiskey and organic foods, a mannequin with "puffy pink pubic hair",...  were among the demands made by Lady Gaga during her Monster's Ball tour.

Top 10 Most Outrageous Diva Demands

by Lindsay Dreyer
04 May 2013

Although Beyonce tried to put a positive spin on the word diva — the "female version of a hustler," according to her 2009 hit song — most people don't think too highly of these A-list ladies. Don't get us wrong: We're all about strong, independent women taking charge and changing the world, but the following stars have a tendency to go a bit overboard (ahem, Mariah Carey).

Here are some of showbiz's most notorious divas and their craziest divalicous demands. One thing is clear: Divas love them some white roses!

Mariah Carey

We wouldn't be surprised if we looked up "diva" in the dictionary and saw a picture of Mariah Carey. While the Grammy-winning singer certainly has the pipes and resume to back up the title — she holds the record for most no. 1 singles by a female recording artist — does her Billboard status justify her outrageous demands?

According to her contract rider obtained by The Smoking Gun, she's been known to demand chilled Cristal, two dozen white roses, and dark-colored couches without busy patterns for her dressing room.

Of course, that's nothing compared to her rumored 2009 demand for 20 white kittens and 100 white doves to be released while she turned on Christmas lights at Westfield London Shopping Centre. The demand could not be met due to health hazards, but Westfield was able to accommodate her request to roll out the pink carpet for her and then shower the crowd with pink and white butterfly-shaped confetti. Did she learn nothing from Glitter?

Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez has done commercials for Fiat and sold her clothing line at Kohl’s, but don't be deceived. This former Fly Girl turned worldwide superstar is just as divalicious as the rest of them, as evidenced by her 2001 rider demanding an all-white dressing room, including white couches, white candles, and an assortment of white flowers.

According to Perez Hilton, J.Lo's demands have skyrocketed in recent years. At the 2010 American Music Awards, the former American Idol judge demanded a custom-fitted ferry — complete with faux leather seats, a champagne fridge, and a pair of diamond-encrusted headphones — to usher her from Cannes to Monaco.

But seriously, guys, she's still Jenny from the block.

Madonna

Madonna is the Queen of Pop, so it's only fitting that she would demand her very own throne while on tour. According to the Daily Mail, Madge requires a brand new toilet seat at every show, in addition to dozens of white roses and candles to protect from "negative glances and mean-spiritedness."

Perhaps even more shocking is Madonna's request to ban air conditioning in every venue to protect her vocal chords. Fans who flocked to see her Confessions World Tour in London in 2006 began fainting as temps inside the arena hit the 90-degree mark. The British health and safety council had no choice but to overrule her diva demand and flip the A/C back on.

But that's nothing compared to the backlash Madonna received after her latest incident when she mouthed off about a bouquet of flowers given to her by a fan. In case you didn't know, she absolutely loathes hydrangeas.

Britney Spears

Britney Spears is really just a hometown gal at heart, and her diva demands reflect her Kentwood, Louisiana, upbringing. A music insider tells us that Brit Brit was all about Southern comfort food backstage at the 2007 MTV VMAs, which she washed down with a few ice-cold margaritas. Probably not the best idea before performing a choreographed routine in a midriff-baring costume and stiletto boots, but who are we to judge?

These days, Britney's rider is looking much healthier. According to Perez Hilton, she banned all junk food from her Femme Fatale Tour dressing room, and required each venue to accommodate two humidifiers and a miniature gym.

However, a source recently told Perez that calories don't count when she's in London, as she requests portions of fish and chips for dinner backstage … in addition to a photo of Princess Diana. Brit loves Brits, y'all!

Christina Aguilera

During her heyday, Christina Aguilera's contract rider was a little bizarre, but not too over-the-top — the singer demanded items like Flintstones vitamins, Oreo cookies, and soy cheese. Oh wait, we must have missed the part demanding a police escort to route Xtina's car through any potential traffic delays. Because, obviously, no diva should have to endure the utter agony of a red light.

These days, Christina is much more concerned with how she looks on camera. According to Perez Hilton, The Voice judge demands to watch the playback of every single scene she's in and will make the crew reshoot them if she thinks she looks fat.

Katy Perry

According to The Smoking Gun, Katy Perry’s backstage dream suite includes “two cream-colored egg chairs, one of which should have a footstool,” as well as a refrigerator with a glass door.

The “Wide Awake” singer is also firmly anti-carnation. “ABSOLUTELY NO CARNATIONS,” her rider specifies.

Noted.

Lady Gaga

Thanks to a lawsuit filed by Lady Gaga’s former assistant Jennifer O’Neill, the pop megastar’s backstage requests for her 2010 Monster’s Ball World Tour are out there — and boy are they out there.

From “a mannequin with puffy pink pubic hair” to 28 bottles of water at room temperature and 28 cold, Mother Monster’s requests (via Celebuzz) run the gamut from totally bizarre to oddly specific.

But what else can you expect from someone who looks at raw meat and sees formal wear?

Madonna... Again!

Madge's demands are so outlandish, she made our list twice! While making the rounds on her MDMA tour, the Material Girl traveled with a heavy load, reports In Touch.

According to the site, her 200-person entourage included personal chefs, 30 bodyguards, an acupuncturist, and a yoga instructor! She even toted around a personal dry cleaner and insisted her dressing room be filled to the brim with lilies and white and pink roses with perfectly trimmed six-inch stems. The singer also expected the room to be swathed in a specific fabric and outfitted with 20 international phone lines.

When Madonna retired to her hotel room, she spared no expense to make herself feel at home. An insider tells In Touch that Madge replaced all hotel furnishings with her own furniture shipped in just for the occasion!

Kris Jenner

Kris Jenner tried to play the celebrity card recently to bypass ordinary people — you know, us mere commoners — while waiting in line for an iPhone 5 at an Apple Store in Los Angeles, reports Radar Online.

First she called the store to ask for five iPhones to be set aside for an assistant to pick up. When the employees refused — saying that no one, no matter how famous, receives preferential treatment — she demanded to talk to the managers. (We can only imagine the phrase “Don’t you know who I am?” was uttered in this conversation.)

Rebuffed by the managers as well, the 57-year-old Kardashian matriarch sent her assistant on the fool’s errand anyway. Guards keeping order among the throngs of Apple devotees simply told the gofer to get in line.

Tom Cruise

For most of us, the thought of eating alone at a restaurant sounds pretty lonely. (Cue Forgetting Sarah Marshall, when Jonah Hill asks solo diner Russell Brand, “You want, like, a magazine or something?”) But that’s exactly what Tom Cruise demanded in a seaside town in Montenegro.

The Sun reports that, while touring the Adriatic Sea in his luxury yacht recently, the 50-year-old Rock of Ages star stopped in the port of Kotor and asked the manager of the five-star Forza Mare to clear out the 10-room boutique hotel so that he could spend quality solo time with his dinner. The manager balked at the request — and rightly so — so a disgruntled Tom had a seafood spread delivered to his yacht instead.

Beyonce

While Beyonce's camp denies them, rumors have been flying about Beyonce's rider for her Mrs. Carter Tour. A source apparently told the Daily Star about an alleged list of demands (via HuffPo) from Queen Bey, including:

All crew members have to wear 100% cotton.
Alkaline water must be chilled to 21 degrees and served with $900 titanium straws.
Bathrooms must have new toilet seats and red toilet paper at every venue.
Hand-carved ice balls should be made after each show to cool her throat.

It's entirely possible that these demands could be made-up; the rumor mill also said that she demanded a $1 million nursery for her daughter Blue Ivy and $6,000 worth of imported cigars and alcohol for Jay-Z at the Super Bowl, but those claims turned out to be false.

Beyonce did, however, ban press photographers from the tour to keep unflattering photos at bay, and E! did confirm that, as the source alleged, she's using a huge dressing room meant to accommodate a whole sports team in addition to the newly-refurbished one intended for a solo star.
