Around 5,000 students from China will be coming here to study English language at the Tarlac State University here, City Mayor Ace Manalang disclosed during his meeting with the Liga ng mga Barangay members over the weekend.
Manalang said the Chinese government has chose this city among other places in the country as "the best place for their students to stay, just to learn foreign tongue, expecting that they would be safe here even for a short period of time."
The Chinese students are expected to come this November and stay in the city until they finish their short-term course by January 2011.
He said while in the city, the Chinese students will try this city’s delicacies and would prefer to eat Filipino food rather than other menus in more than 90 days of their staying here.
Manalang said having visitors from other country like China will boosts local tourism industry thus, "making them safe, comfortable and happy while they are here would be their word of mouth when going back to their own place."
The students would be accommodated at the Lucinda Hotel, TSU compound for their board and lodging.
He also said this would be the Tarlaquenos' chance to show their hospitality, kindness and honesty and to prove that this province is not just a simple stop-over place but one of the best tourist destinations in the Philippines.
According to the mayor, he already ordered city police chief Supt. Arnel Ramos to create a task force to be detailed as police tourist guide to ensure the safety of the Chinese students.(PNA)
