Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) president Dr. Henry Sojor said he is implementing the national law and a provincial ordinance against smoking in public places and public conveyances.
Sojor issued the statement in reminding NORSUNIANs a specific provision of the law, which prohibits smoking within 100 meters from the perimeter fence of schools, colleges and universities.
Definitely, implementation of the law will be met with objections, but this is a risk of being a leader, Sojor said.
He is advising student-smokers to quit smoking, because this will not do good for their health, and instead use their money for projects and other useful means.
On the other hand, the city government of Dumaguete is also implementing the no-smoking ordinance in the whole of city hall and in public places. (PNA)
