WANTED: Home Solar Electricity Kit / Parts
« on: July 02, 2010, 09:00:49 AM »
Hi all,
I am looking for a home solar kit or the components (cells, deep discharge batteries, inverter).
So far I have not found any good value suppliers in the Philippines, only abroad.  If you know of any here then please reply.
Alternatively, if any of you are feeling helpful and know about the ins and outs of importing from China via Cebu, then I could use your advice.
cheers,
Ben

Hi Ben,
Phil here.
Im currently in Australia, but return in early august to bohol.
I recently set up 6x 80watt panels in manila for a friend (panels, inverter and regulator cost around 100k second hand- but good quality). The setup did not include batteries. Batteries are very expensive (& heavy!) here (in Australia) and hard to ship.
motolite (philippine company) make a deep cycle battery but Im unsure of the quality as they are quite cheap, and only have a limited warranty.
There is a local company I contacted in cebu, but I found they were very limited in knowledge, and just wanted to charge alot of money for cheap chinese gear with no warranty.

mate, PM me with your email address and I can send you some info while im here in Australia.
Dont expect to run alot of ref's or aircon on solar as it just wont do it (unless your prepared to spend THOUSANDS of DOLLLARS!).
the set ups Ive installed were great for LED lighting, TV, Fan, stereo gear and computer gear.
I have installed larger setups with lister command start generator backups, but they were a dear system..
take care mate,
Phil...

Thanks for the information.

The annoying thing with solar is that the longer you wait to buy the kit, the cheaper it becomes.  Cells used to be $30 USD per watt, now they are $3.  Some manufacturers are saying they will hit $1 per Watt soon!  At that point it will be much cheaper than buying your electricity from the mains supplier, if you calculate it over 10 years.

I was told the ROI is 3 years  ::), while the current price for Monocrystallyne Cells is P220.00/watt depende siguro sa manufacturer.
Nakita pod nako ang design sa akong husband to setup a solar water pumping -problema lang karon ang budget.

I wonder why such a high price?  maybe the parts are super high quality, imported from somewhere like Germany.
One other problem I hit was import duty.  Since Jan 2010 there is supposed to be 0% tariff on most imports from ASEAN, and some imports from China.  I contacted Customs to find out how much it really was, answer = 25%.
