By Bohol Chronicle

With the aim to boost the tourism, agricultural and natural farming here, Erwin “Pastor” Emata, the third Filipino to reach the peak of Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world, will personally participate on this month's Panglao Camp and Run 2011.

The event, which is open for male and female participants, is a two day activity to be held in Bohol Coco Farm along Brgy Libaong Panglao.

Efren de Guzman, the event organizer and proprietor of Bohol Coco Farm, disclosed that the activities will kick off on December 17 for the camp activity and December 18 for the trail run activity.

De Guzman added that the affair is an opportunity for the Boholanos to encounter the famous Filipino Mountain Climber who was able to reach the highest peak in the world.

De Guzman explained that on the first day, participants will be strategically placed in the different areas within the Bohol Coco Farm for the camping. Emata will be the main director of the said camp.

“Participants can ask to Emata some important points in life such as the value of discipline and patience as these are the basic tools in life's success”, De Guzman said.

De Guzman firmly believes that the virtues of discipline and patience of Emata took him to the peak of Mount Everest.

Emata reached the peak of Mount Everest last May 18, 2006 in about 24 hours after his companion, Leo Oracion, reached the same peak.

In a separate interview by the Chronicle, Dax Ang, technical coordinator of Emata, disclosed that the five kilometer run is not the usual fun run which passes through the concrete roads.

“We call this activity as trail run because most of the running will be done on trails”, Ang stressed out.

The trail run will start and finish at the Bohol Coco Farm with two designated areas along the way as water stations. The trail run will pass the tourist police station, Dumaluan Beach Resort, Barangays Bolod and Libaong shoreline, Libaong Public Beach, Amarela Resort and Libaong Brgy Hall.

Ang explained that the purpose of the trail run is to boost the agricultural and natural farming here which is the main goal of the Bohol Coco Farm. Ang added that the event has also side activities such as walking on the native bridge inside the farm that connect one coconut to the other.

Meanwhile, George Reeves, a native from New York, disclosed to the Chronicle that he himself is one of the million people who are proud of Emata. Reeves did not hesitate to endorse the activities. In fact, he will join the five kilometer trail run.

The Panglao Fun Run 2011 is also supported by the Provincial Government of Bohol, Philippine Coconut Authority and station DYRD.
