It’s all systems go for the 2011 Eusebio “Ebyong” Morala Memorial Chess Tournament set to commence on October 28 and 29 in this city, as held yearly in honor of the late Eusebio “Ebyong” Morala, a known chess enthusiast and a keen player during his heydays.

The newly established chess group, Chessmen Inc., an organization duly registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is the organizer wherein the event is divided into open and all-student (under 18 years old) categories with the lion’s share of prizes at stake.

Morala Cup serves as the main tune-up tournament and appetizer to the forthcoming 2011 President Carlos P. Garcia Chess Festival calendared on November 3 and 4.

This yearly chess activity will employ a seven-round Swiss System format of 45-minute time control for each player play-to-finish for both divisions.

Expected to slug it out for the Open division top purse of P3,000 and will likewise serve as part of its preparation are the members of the Team Chessmen Bohol Province-Taghilaran City chess team composed of candidate masters Johnny Torralba (Tagbilaran City) and Glenn Pardillo Jr. (Tubigon), Fide Rated Jayson Salubre (Maribojoc) and its Top Board Player International Master Oliver Dimakiling (Antequera) slated to join in the 2011 National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) organized National Inter – Cities and Municipalities Chess Team Championship set on November 4–8 in Tanuan City, Batangas.

Registration for the said Eusebio “Ebyong” Morala Chess Tournament is now on going at the Blatz N Bolitz Chess Clubhouse (BNBCC) located inside the McJac Foodcenter, J.S. Torralba corner Gallares Sts., this city and look for its club manager Jose “Boy Metric” Mitra.

Only the first 40 registrants in the open division and first 20 registrants in the all-student division will be accepted to participate in this event. Registration for the said chess competition is accepted only until the October 28, strictly no on-site registration for the tournament.
