The Cebu Province will host the
Cebu Challenge 2012 on Aug. 8-12 that will start at the Cebu Provincial Capitol and cover the whole island of Cebu.
The cycling race, which is part of the celebration of the 443rd Founding Anniversary of Cebu Province, is in partnership with Globe Telecommunications and the Guardians Delta Force International Inc. (GDFII).
David “Boy†Odilao Jr., chairman and organizer of the race, said they are expecting some 20 teams to join the
event.
Twelve teams had already registered, he said.
One team that confirmed its participation is the Cebu Province team of Noy Jopson, Albert Basirgo, Marvin Tapic, Junvic Pagnanawon and Jano Canasa.
Jopson, who will be competing in the Cobra Ironman 70.3, said he also finds the cycling challenging and interesting.
â€It’s interesting because the cycling race has a different dynamics, it is basically a team sport where everyone in the team will contribute in the over-all ranking in the race,†Jopson said.
This maybe the first cycling race for Jopson this year but not his first as he has been joining several races like the tour of Matumbinkay in Batangas, which he is also eyeing to join this December.
Southeast Asian Games mountain bike bronze medalist Nino Surban will also join the race.
The race is composed of six stages, and will start with a 4.2-kilometer prologue at the South Road Properties followed by a massed start from Cebu Provincial Capitol to Bogo City (101.7 kilometers).
The next stages will be from Bogo City to Toledo City, (86.9 kilometers), Toledo City to Argao (186.7 kilometers).
