MANILA -- A radio broadcaster was shot dead by a still unidentified suspect in Bohol on Saturday morning, police said.
Superintendent Joie Pacito Yape, spokesperson of Bohol provincial police, identified the victim as Engr. Maurito Lim, a broadcaster for the local radio station dyRD in Tagbilaran City.
Yape said the victim was slain by a lone attacker around 10:45 a.m. outside the radio station in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.
A report by the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) said Lim was about to alight from his car when a lone gunman onboard a motorcycle shot him. Reports said Lim was hit in the left jaw, the bullet exiting on the other side of his face.
"The said suspect drove away after the incident... heading towards north direction," said Yape.
Yape said responding members of the local emergency group Tarsier 117 brought Lim to a hospital where the victim died around 1:15 p.m.
NUJP-Tagbilaran chapter vice chairman Leo Udtuhan said Lim anchored the daily public affairs program "Chairman Mao On Board," which is critical of local officials linked to the illegal drug trade.
Manhunt operation and investigation on the incident was ongoing, said Yape.
Lim's killing followed that of a female tabloid reporter who was slain by unknown suspects in Balanga, Bataan last month.
Lim was the second journalist killed in Tagbilaran, according to NUJP. (VR/Sunnex)
