Seeing this image brings forth feelings of both sadness and hope. Sadness because I was actually there in Kieve for an entire summer back in 2006 when I studied in Kiev Mohyla Academy University in an exchange program. I had, in all tense and purposes, become an adopted son of Kiev; developing a love for the local people, their struggling society post-Soviet as it may have been. The hopes and dreams of friends i knew then -- comes back to my mind. I am reminded of my frequent strolls around Maidan in that summer of '06, with my cup of coffee on hand and talking to my then-room mates Sergey and Yaroslav. I have lost contant with those two over the years and I hope that they were both unharmed during the recent fighting.

Hope. The feeling of hope comes to mind seeing the image of the Cross of Christ in the hands of priests and workers of peace. For me, it brings a glimmer of hope that Faith is not dead, and that tho it works through inward illumination, the image of the Cross staved the fingers of would be murders from pulling their weapons' triggers. May the Image of the Cross continue to promote peace, even now. In the Ukraine, in Russia.

My prayers go out to my old friends there, and may peace always reign. The Cross of Christ bless us...
