The
late Mayor Jacinto Rubillar Sr., Maribojoc town mayor from 1960 to 1963, will soon be accorded his place in the town's pantheon of leaders and historical figures, with the passage of a bill filed in Congress by Bohol First District Rep. Rene Lopez Relampagos.
The bill, filed by the Boholano solon last Tuesday, seeks to rename the San Vicente Primary School in Barangay San Vicente of Maribojoc into the Mayor Jacinto Rubillar Sr. Primary School.
"It is a worthy tradition that officials who have distinguished themselves as public servants are remembered, even in the naming of a street or of a building in their honor," the First District congressman declared in an interview Friday.
"For some, such gestures may be token, but we should always look with gratitude upon our forebears and follow the examples they set as we vigilantly take up our share of the great task of nation-building," Relampagos added.
Apart from serving his constituents, the late Mayor Rubillar, who hailed from Barangay San Vicente, donated more than one hectare of land for public use. That land is where the San Vicente Primary School is now situated and which is also occupied by the Department of Education building.
Large portions of the donated land have also been developed into a basketball court, stage, school library building, day care center, and the barangay hall of San Vicente.
In a related development, the Rubillar family also plans to build a new school library fully furnished with books and a computer and the concreting of the perimeter walls of the school premises.
Eventually, a new road will be constructed beside the basketball court and the new barangay hall which will also serve as an access road to the school.
